Practice Takes Practice

My friend and collaborator Melanie Mowinski recently put together a manifesto composed of the statements and encouragements she finds herself oft repeating when making and teaching art.

Writing and reading a little each day provides a contemplative space, and practice, while so much of the rest of our day belongs to others and the public sphere. The promptings I offer during my quarterly 21 Day Poetry Challenges are created with this in mind. Each installment includes a poem or brief reading, as well as ideas for how to begin writing. We begin the 2015 September edition today.

“The endless engagement one can have with the world, an engagement that comes from trying to put words to it, pluck images from it, discover new meanings, unearth its secrets—there is no better way, in my opinion, to use the little bit of time we have here.”  —Laura Kasischke, author of ‘Space, in Chains’
