Prima Materia
(with Karen Dolmanisth, 2019)

A ritual, a sacred act—like touching the cave wall.

When I began collaborating with artist Karen Dolmanisth in 2016, I was excited by the many overlaps between our shared experiences and sensibilities and proposed what turned into a series of collaborations.

In Prima Materia (2019), Karen and I offered an intimate view into a conversation and materials that revealed our personal lives within a context of a culture and political climate that continues to question the value of women's voices, bodies, and experiences.

This site specific installation and performance work included a sound recording of our voice messages, back and forth, during the making of the work, and was mixed by the musician and engineer, Ethan Spaulding. Other elements included ice, water, stones, wood, fabric, fire, shells and grass.
